History FairThe History Fair was a great success! Topics ranged from the national symbol posters completed by the kindergarten and first grade students to the biographical reports and “bottle biographies” created by the 2nd graders, where they designed the bottles to look like the historical characters they researched.
Third through sixth graders each completed a project or model, a report and a display board. They were required to keep a journal detailing their work on the projects as well. Several judges also interviewed the students to assess their knowledge on their chosen topic and their ability to articulate that knowledge. All students received participation awards. Third through sixth graders earned first through third place ribbons indicating their level of achievement according to a project rubric distributed at the beginning of the project. There were two grand champions named as well. The third and fourth grade division winner was Mikey Gonzales whose project was entitled, “Texas Tornadoes.” The fifth and sixth grade champion was Laura Garza with “The Great Pyramids of Giza.” Gonzales made a model showing a twister moving through a Texas landscape and presented information about tornadoes in general while highlighting specific tornadoes that were important in Texas history. Garza’s impressive pyramid model included a mummy displayed inside the structure. According to the history fair judges, her knowledge of the great pyramids expressed during the interview is what moved her project to the top of her class. Hot Lunch Menu |
